On May 9, 2015, a team of eight associates from Life Care Center of St. Louis took part in the American Heart Association Heart Walk at Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals.
“This was the second year that we participated,” said Sarah Edler, director of rehab services. “Last year, we raised about $300, and this year we raised $1,378.30 as a building!”
The facility’s fundraising efforts leading up to the walk included bake sales, T-shirt sales, securing vendor donations for the cause and selling AHA red dress pins.
“The majority of our patients have some type of heart-related disease, so we see the impact of heart disease on a daily basis,” Edler added. “Doing this walk inspired our building to start a ‘Biggest Loser’-style challenge to help our associates eat healthier, exercise more and lose weight, all toward healthier hearts.”
